Travel Photography Competition – week 116
Hello everyone and welcome once again to the 116th edition of our popular weekly Travel Photography Competition! This week we are looking at the photos posted on our Facebook page between 12th and 18th November.
The first winning photo shows, like the top winner last week, the beauty of rural England and was taken in Ripon in North Yorkshire. Ripon is a cathedral city and a market town located in the Borough of Harrogate. Although it is the 4th smallest city in England, it is a popular travel destination due to the proximity of Studley Royal Park and Fountains Abbey UNESCO World Heritage Sites.
In second position there is this week a great desert-like image taken on the Terschelling beach in the Netherlands. Terschelling is one of the West Frisian Islands and is situated between the Vlieland and Ameland islands. A large part of the island is a nature reserve and its main source of income is tourism. Many visitors are also drawn to the island for the annual Oerol theatre festival.
In third place, just like last week, we have two awesome photos. The first one of them was taken in the Gramos Mountains in Kastoria, Greece. This mountain range, which is part of the northern Pindus mountains, is located on the Greek-Albanian border and its highest peak rises to an elevation of 2,520 m. It certainly looks like a fine camping ground!
And the last winning photo, which scored the same amount of votes as the previous one, was taken in Paris, France and shows a street dancer in action. The French capital used to be the largest city of the western world in the 12th century, a prosperous trading centre and one of the most influential places of learning in Europe. Today, the city is as important as ever in the world of fashion, culture, business, education and politics. It is also an extremely popular tourist destination and it’s home to three of the ten most visited art museums in the world.
Thanks to everyone who participated in this week’s edition of the competition, either by sending or by voting for the pictures! We wish you a nice end of the weekend!
