Travel Photography Competition – week 114
Hello everyone and welcome once again to the 114th edition of our popular weekly Travel Photography Competition! This week we are looking at the photos posted on our Facebook page between 29th October – 4th November.
The winning photo this week depicts the pastel-coloured Storsjön (The Great Lake), in Frösön, Jämtland, Sweden. The lake, which is the 5th largest in the country, covers an area of 464 km², and contains the island of Frösön, from where this photo was taken. To reach the island, take the Vägverket Färjerederiet ferry from Norderön or, in the winter months, drive over the frozen lake on the temporary ice roads.
In second place we have another atmospheric shot, this time of Dungeness in Kent, UK. Dungeness is classified as Britain’s only desert and is one of the largest expanses of shingle in Europe. It is also an area of outstanding biodiversity with over 600 different types of plants which make up a third of all those found in Britain.
And our final photo this week, takes us to autumn on the River Wear, as seen from Baths Bridge, in Durham City, UK. The historic town of Durham is perhaps most famous for its UNESCO listed Cathedral (founded in 1093) and Castle, which are regarded as some of the finest examples of Norman architecture in England.
This gorgeous photo was sent in by Simon Owens, an amateur landscape photographer from Durham, UK. Visit his Facebook page Aperture Priority – Photography and his Flickr Photostream for more beautiful photos taken in the North-East UK and beyond.
Thanks to everyone who participated in this week’s edition of the competition, either by sending or by voting for the pictures! We wish you a nice end of the weekend!
