Travel Photography Competition – week 100
Hello everyone and welcome to the centenary edition of our popular weekly Travel Photography Competition! This week we are looking at the photos posted on our Facebook page between 17th and 24th July.
The first winner this week is a gorgeous HDR image of a horse on the beach at Porto Germeno, Greece. Porto Germeno is a beach resort area located in the Attica prefecture on the north-eastern coast of the Corinthian Gulf. Nearby stands the fortress of Aigosthena, dating back to the 3rd century BC, considered one of the best-preserved ancient castles in Greece.
In second position we have this lovely photo showing the sky on fire and the Dyrhólaey Lighthouse located near Vík, Iceland. Dyrhólaey is a small peninsula from where there are gorgeous views of the big Mýrdalsjökull glacier to the north, black lava columns of the Reynisdrangar poking out of the sea to the east, and the stunning rugged coastline to the west. In summer, you can also spot here puffins nesting on the cliff edges.
This stunning photo was sent by Arturas Burming who is based in Budapest, Hungary.
And our last winning shot this week shows a sea of flowers in the Dolomites, Trentino, Italy. The Dolomites are a mountain range located in the north-east of the country and they form a part of the Southern Limestone Alps. The highest peak is Marmolada which rises to the elevation of 3,343 m (10,968 ft). The Dolimites have been a UNESCO World Heritage Site since 2009.
This scenic image was sent in by Francesco Damin from Busto Arsizio in Italy. His passion for hiking and photography makes a great match which you can see in his stunning photos. For more visit his 500px portfolio or his Flickr photostream.
Thanks to everyone who participated in this week’s edition of the competition, either by sending or by voting for the pictures! We wish you a nice end of the weekend!
