Travel Photography Competition – week 92
Our competition is getting more and more popular, and every week we receive lots of stunning images sent by skilful photographers from all around the globe. As you will see today, the style of the photos are very different too and the variety of photographic approaches and techniques used by the winning photographers only shows that there is no particular formula to win the competition and that our readers find many different styles interesting.
In first position today we’ve got this colourful image showing Palacio de Exposiciones y Congresos (The Palace of Expositions and Congresses) located in the city of Oviedo, Asturias, Spain. This unique piece of architecture was designed by a Valencial architect Santiago Calatrava in 2008. Oviedo is not the most touristy city in Spain and many view it only as a base for visiting the nearby UNESCO Pre-Romanesque churches but architecturally speaking Oviedo is a real gem where you will find stunning old houses with decorative bay-windows as well as the 9th century Cathedral of San Salvador (another UNESCO World Heritage Site). If you’re still not convinced why you should visit Oviedo, read our article.
The photo that received this week the second highest number of votes was taken on Praia da Granja beach in Vila Nova de Gaia, Porto district, Portugal. The beach was constructed in the 18th century and first belonged to the brothers of the Monastery of Grijo, who used it as a convalescence and relaxation area.
And the last one of this week’s winning photos shows the spectacular Old Man of Storr rock that can be found on the Isle of Skye, Scotland, UK. The Old Man is a characteristic pinnacle rock (in the centre of the photo) that can be seen from miles away. The Storr hill rises to an elevation of 719 m (2,359 ft) and can be accessed from the north shore of Loch Leathan. The path is well constructed and popular among hikers due to its unique lunar landscape. If you’d like to hike The Storr, check out this handy website with the route description.
This beautiful black and white photo was taken by Craig Richards based in Sunderland, UK. He is a fine art and landscape and wedding photographer, and we highly recommend checking out his website and his Facebook page.
Thanks to everyone who participated in this week’s edition of the competition, either by sending or by voting for the pictures! We wish you a nice end of the weekend!
