Travel Photography Competition – week 90
The first winner in this week’s competition was taken in front of Petru Vodă Monastery in Neamț county, Romania, which is a fairly new Romanian Orthodox monastery built at the end of the 20th century. If you like monasteries, Neamț is definitely the place to visit, as this region is known to be home to the highest number of monasteries per square kilometre in the world!
This lovely photo was sent by Ilie Prelipceanu from Romania.
The second winning photo this week shows the wonderful colours of Hormoz island, located in the Persian Gulf, Iran. The unique colours are formed by sedimentary rock and layers of volcanic material that cover the island. One of the main tourist attractions on the island is a red stone fortress called the Portuguese Castle, which is one of the last surviving monuments of Portuguese colonial rule in the Persian Gulf.
This beautiful image was sent in by Agnieszka Nanaszko, a Polish hitchhiker and a round-the world traveller. Agnieszka and her French boyfriend Quentin started their trip over 500 days ago. Follow their feats and see more wonderful photos from the road on their blog world-to-experience.blogspot.com and their Facebook page Experiencing the Wonder of the World.
And the last stunning photograph that managed to sneak into third position thanks to your votes was taken in the Lofoten Islands. Norway. Lofoten is an archipelago lying within the Arctic Circle in Vesterålen, in the county of Nordland. Lofoten is a must-visit place to all lovers of coarse northern landscapes and if you ever go there, I recommend visiting the ghost fishermen’s village of Nyksund.
Thanks to everyone who participated in this week’s edition of the competition, either by sending or by voting for the pictures! We wish you a nice end of the weekend!
