Travel Photography Competition – week 62
Hello everyone and welcome to the 62nd edition of our popular Travel Photography Competition! This week we will be looking at photos sent into our Facebook page between 29th September and 6th October.
The first winning shot shows the Ring of Brodgar, located on the Mainland, Orkney Islands, Scotland. The Ring is a Neolithic stone circle, part of the UNESCO World Heritage Site known as the Heart of Neolithic Orkney. They are examples of the northernmost stone henges in Britain and are believed to have been erected between 2500 BC and 2000 BC. The stone circle’s diameter is 104 metres. It originally contained 60 stones, of which only 27 remain.
This stunning picture was taken by Jo Hanna. Visit her wonderful blog for more!
In second position we have this wonderful photo showing Dante’s View, Death Valley NP, California, USA. Dante’s View is a dramatic panoramic viewpoint terrace at 1,669 m (5,476 ft), on the north side of Coffin Peak, overlooking Death Valley. This desert located in Eastern California, is the lowest, hottest and driest area in North America.
And the last photo in this week’s selection was taken at dawn at Wastwater in the Lake District, United Kingdom. Wastwater is the deepest lake in England, located in Wasdale valley. Its bottom is over 50 feet below sea level! “The Lakes” is a stunning mountainous region in North-West England and a popular holiday destination. It’s well-known not only thanks to its lakes, mountains and woods, but also for being beautifully described by the 19th century Lake Poets.
This beautiful view was captured by GK Photography, a very keen amateur photographer who likes to take photos of sunsets, sunrises, landscapes and wildlife.
Thanks to everyone who participated in this week’s edition of the competition, either by sending or by voting for the pictures! We wish you nice end of the weekend!
