Travel Photography Competition – week 33
A big hello to all and welcome to the 33rd edition of our Travel Photography Competition, in which we celebrate the very best of the photos sent to our Facebook page by our very talented contributing photographers and published between 9th and 16th February.
This week we have a lovely selection of photos from both Europe and Africa showcasing the celestial to the natural via a lonely man on a rainy day. So without further ado…
Our first winner this week comes all the way from Foz do Douro, Porto in Portugal . Foz de Douro means ‘mouth of the Douro (River)’ and is located in the western part of Porto facing out to the Atlantic Ocean. It is known for being one of the most affluent areas of the city.
This haunting shot was sent in by Manuel Meneses a photographer from and based in Porto, Portugal. Manuel is a regular contributor here at Hitch-Hikers’ Handbook and has featured in the 18th, 26th and 32nd editions of our competition. Congratulations Manuel!
Our next winner this week was sent in from Eyjafjörður, Iceland and shows the heart-shaped Northern Lights hanging over the fjord. Eyjafjörður is the largest fjord in Iceland and is located along the central-northern coast of the island. It is both long and narrow measuring 60km from mouth to end and for the majority of its length is between 6-10 km wide.
This magnificent shot was sent in by our regular contributor Fr brinks photography. Frodi is both born and raised in Iceland and specialises in fantastically dramatic shots of this coarse and wild land. Check out his website here for more information and great shots.
Our final winner this week was sent in from the Maasai Mara National Reserve, Kenya. Named in honour of the Maasai tribe, the reserve is famous the world over for its large stock of lions, leopards, cheetahs and game, as well as the annual migration of zebra, gazelle, and wildebeest to and from the Serengeti every year, which is known as the Great Migration.
Thanks to everyone who participated in this week’s edition of the competition, either by sending or by voting for the pictures! We wish you nice end of the weekend!
