Travel Photography Competition – week 9
We are glad you’re back because it’s the 9th week of our Travel Photography Contributions and we’ve got for you three fresh photos which were the most popular on our Facebook page between 6th and 13th August 2012. We present the winning photos in no particular order.
The first winner in this week’s selection is this stunning photo of the Colosseum in Rome, Italy. It was constructed between 72-80 AD and it was the largest amphitheatre ever built in the Roman Empire. Capable of seating 50,000 spectators, the Colosseum was used for gladiatorial contests and public spectacles such as mock sea battles, animal hunts, executions, re-enactments of famous battles, and dramas based on Classical mythology. Rome’s historic centre, including this amazing building, has been listed as a UNESCO World Heritage Site.
The next most popular photo was this great road photo taken somewhere in Scotland. We haven’t been to Scotland yet and we must admit that this road looks very inviting! How easy is hitch-hiking in Scotland, have any of you tried? If so, we invite you to share your experiences and tips with us.
And the final picture for you this week is this interesting HDR image of an old general store located in Waring, Texas, USA, just a few miles south of Kerrville. Jerry Cotten, who sent us this photo, says they serve good food there and it’s a nice live music venue. And “the picturesque Guadalupe River runs just north of the store.”
Although Jerry is an amateur photographer, his work has been published about 30 times in “Texas Highways” and “Texas Parks & Wildlife” magazines. His favourite subject to photograph is lightning. Send us some more of your great storm pictures, Jerry!
I must say that we get a lot of great photos and it’s a shame that we can publish only three every week. Nonetheless, I’d like to thank everyone who sends and votes for pictures in our weekly competitions! Don’t forget to visit the websites of our talented contributing photographers who inspire us to travel through their great shots! Thanks for being with us, guys!
What are Travel Photography Contribution Weeks?
Each week we publish the three pictures which got the most “likes” on our Facebook page giving the photographers the credit they deserve. The competition has a 3-4 week delay so that the pictures sent later in a week will have an equal chance to get the same amount of “likes” as the ones sent at the beginning.
If your pictures are among this week’s selection, feel free to link to our website and tell your friends about it.
If you would like to participate in the selections, post your best TRAVEL shots on our Facebook page with their location clearly indicated.
Keep sending your photos and travel safe!
